“A Winter’s Walk at Dusk” is about my favorite time of the day, “the blue hour” – just before the light fully fades to night. There’s a small lake surrounded by a stretch of woods near where I live and this piece pictures a portion of the trail that I walk as often as possible at this time of the year. It’s a beautiful place that allows the quiet to settle my mind and cares.
Clay body is Standard 181 slab rolled and cut to size, then coated with several layers of Amaco Jet Black Velvet underglaze. The design was drawn onto the glazed tile and then sgraffito carved. Following first bisque, the colors were painted using a variety of Amaco Velvet underglazes, then bisque fired again. The tile was then sealed with UV archival spray and hanging hardware attached.
